old is the new "new"

So, I have totally been in the mood to make things lately.  I haven't done as much as I could hope, but I've been working on a few fun things.  My grandma gave me a bunch of antique brooches and old clip on earrings.  I decided it might be fun to think of new ways to wear her old jewelry.  I've been wanting to make headbands and hairpieces, but I also thought I would try a couple of necklaces.  These are just a couple of my first creations.  It is fun wearing something that my grandma once wore.  I heart her!!

Well kids, as mentioned in a previous post, there is a lot going on in our lives right now!  Due to a whole bunch of things, we are no longer Californians.  Without going in to the story, I'll just say, we had to make some decisions that would be beneficial to our family, so we decided to come back to Utah.  After tossing around several different ideas, we have decided to do a summer program in Chicago.  We'll be there for the summer, then back to Utah in the fall.  I feel extremely blessed to have a husband who can provide for me and support me in all of my craziness.  So, the summer will be another adventure!!  Updates to come!

So, a couple of days ago, we decided we ought to get out and enjoy socal.  It wasn't the warmest day, but we decided to head to the Santa Monica Pier and enjoy the beauty of the ocean.  There isn't much of a story, but we captured some fun moments while we were there...

This pelican was just hanging out on the edge of the pier.  It was HUGE and snapped at someone right as we got there.  I was so scared to stand by it!!  It has a claw at the end of its beak which made it look extra mean!

Greg was being a bird man.  The guy in the background was COVERED in pigeons.  It was actually pretty disgusting.  The man was kissing them... don't pigeons carry disease?  Ick.  But makes for a good photo.

At the end of the day, we were exhausted and Greg decided he wanted to hop out of the car and try to surf for a little bit.  The whole time I thought I was capturing a GORGEOUS colorful sunset... It was actually the tint on my sunglasses.  I'm a dork!!

So yesterday was quite a long and draining day, but at the end of it all, we walked out of Frontier Toyota in Valencia, CA with a 2010 Highlander SE. It was pretty entertaining watching Greg "wheelin and dealin" to get us a new vehicle. It is gorgeous and will be a perfect family car for us!! There is one huge adjustment now though, we are a ONE CAR FAMILY!! I am pretty sure it will drive us crazy for the first bit, but I think it will be a good thing for us!!

I want to make something. A craft, a song, a dance, a dress, a blanket, jewelry, something. I am aching to create.

crazy week! (and thank you tow truck)

So, first thing first, I really need to start packing a camera with me everywhere I go. This past week would have been the perfect time to take a lot of pictures.

We went back home to Utah over the past week to surprise Greg's dad for his 50th birthday and also, my mom's birthday is this week, so we killed two birds with one stone. During our drive to Utah, we ended up hearing our tire vibrating. I asked Greg about it and he just said everything is fine and he wanted to keep driving. Little did I know, he knew exactly what was going on, he just didn't want me to panic. Soon though, our tire was completely flat so we had to stop the car.

Now the setting... 3:30 in the morning, wind rain and snow, stopped between Beaver and Fillmore, UT. For those of you who aren't familiar, I'll just say there is NOTHING around. It is really the middle of nowhere. So Greg gets out of the car and gets out the spare tire... sure enough, no jack. At this point, we really didn't know what to do, so we called Millard County to see if they had a Sheriff who could help us. They called highway patrol and not a single officer was on duty in 2 counties. So they have a tow truck guy call us. He tells us that just to bring us a jack, he'll charge $120. Um, no thanks.

I decide it would be a good idea if Greg would flag down a car, we could borrow a jack and we'd be on our way, right? WRONG. No one would stop. It WAS 3:30 in the morning, but still... we needed help. Greg decided we should probably just sleep it out until morning when we'd have a better chance of flagging someone down... So, we kick back our seats, spread out a blanket and try to sleep... you know how babies like rocking? Well, we don't like rocking. Every time a semi truck would drive by, our car would shake and we'd have to start over trying to fall asleep.

A couple of hours later, a big flatbed tow truck pulls up in front of us. He says he can pull the car to his gas station and fix the tire for $100. Not ideal, but YES, we will be saved. So, he has us put the car in neutral and he pulls the car up onto the flatbed. Then tells us to stay in the car and we'll be there in a little bit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? So we rode 30 miles on dirt roads to his gas station IN the car, ON the flatbed. It was pretty crazy and definitely memorable.

That was just one of many interesting and funny things that happened this week. There are more things going on in our lives right now which will be spoken of soon...but not quite yet. So, until next time!!

Yesterday was such a fun day.

Our primary kids (we teach the elevens) were especially awesome. We've had some pretty intense classes the past few weeks, a lot of scriptures and questions, and it seemed like the kids were getting antsy. So this week, I decided to allow them to play a game the last 5 minutes if they were quiet enough and participated in the lesson. It was amazing how much better they were with participating. They actually were willing to give answers and it seemed like they retained more from the beginning of the lesson until the end. Then in sharing time, we had an amazing talk given by on of the girls in our class, she isn't a member, and a sweet and sincere prayer from a boy in our class whose family has recently returned to church. I am so proud of them and am really excited to be their teacher! I love my kids :)

Then last night we had some friends invite us over for a bbq. We had such a good time. Thanks Jill and Chris for having us over!! Then we played a fun game of Phase Ten. It turned out all of us were a bit competitive. We kept trying to get back at each other when we would get skipped. I think I ended up getting skipped about a million times (but probably one less time than Evan!!) Anyway, we really had a great time. Oh, and I think the funniest thing that happened the whole night was watching Nicole being so embarrassed by Evan's "the wave" dance moves. So funny.
